Days without practice

Today was one of those days where as soon as my classes were done, my responsibilities to the outside world ended. There was no practice looming over my head, meaning I had to stick to a strict schedule in order to maximize the amount of time I had in the day. No, not today. Today, I went to class, did my rehab, then went to study hall. I started the day with 0 hours and finished with 4 hours and 29 minutes (which always makes me crazy, like I want to re-swipe in and then swipe out again to make it 30 minutes haha)

I spent that whole time working intensely on my study guide. I didn’t worry about catching the bus back in time because I didn’t pack cheer clothes so I can’t just stay on campus, I just worked in study hall until my eyes felt like they were crossed. That’s when I knew it was time to go home. I still came back and continued studying, but those 40 minutes it took to get home did wonders for my attention span.

I also, for the first time in my 3 years since being here, attended the Athlete Talent Show! What a hoot! We had a couple of our teammates performing and they all were hands down the best and I promise I’m not biased, well at least entirely. All of our performers finished in the top 2 of the talent section. Cheerleaders are clearly jacks of all trades πŸ˜‰ Needless to say, some of the other athletes should be thankful for their physical talents and leave their other “careers” behind. Although I do give everyone props who performed tonight because I wouldn’t have the nerve to do it.

Once back home, it was time for some relaxation and Homeland! Anyone seen it? Apparently it is filmed in Charlotte, which is really amazing and I’m hoping that the next time I am home, Daddy can take me to go see one of the sets (hint hint) It is a really intense show, but I am loving every minute of it. Huge thanks to Meredith’s family for getting me hooked πŸ™‚ If it was up to me I would probably already be through the 2 seasons because I would neglect all other responsibilities, stay in bed and watch episode after episode until I was done. Thankfully, that isn’t the case and I’m being paced so I’m not shirking any of my duties.

Random side note- ever notice how everything seems to run out at exactly the same time? I am currently on the verge of being out of toilet paper, conditioner, shaving cream, body wash, milk, bread, laundry detergent, mascara, and food in general. When I’m not on campus and can eat a meal there with my dining dollars, I eat bread with butter. Ahhh the life of a poor college student haha

Tomorrow is a busy day because I don’t finish class until 5:30/6:30 depending on how long lab lasts, and then I have practice from 6-8. Then it is right back to studying for my last test until spring break.

I think I can. I think I can.

22 days until my 21st birthday….eeeekkkk!!

Weekend Recap

I had such a nice, low-key weekend to end such a crazy stressful week. Like I said last week I was in the process of studying for 4 tests, that I think all went fairly well. I am glad to have them behind me though, that’s for sure!

Much of Friday after class and signing my lease for my new apartment with Abbie, Morgan, and Meredith, was spent knocked out in my bed catching up on sleep that was lost during the week. Boy did I need it! Then I had the pleasure of puppy sitting for 2 little pug/chow/sharpei mixes that were a little bit of a handful! They were sweet though and it was good to get my puppy fix since I don’t get to be around animals as much as I would like. My friend, Kara, who I have worked with at Brixx since I was 16, stayed the night with me Friday night because she was just accepted into NC State’s grad school and had a conference type thing up in Raleigh. It was really nice to just hang out and catch up and of course she filled me in on all the happenings of Brixx.

Saturday was a really good day! The morning started off sleeping in and then making a big breakfast with some good friends. Ben, Brian, Tyler, Kelly and I made pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and coffee. Well I had hot tea of course πŸ™‚ I wish I had taken a picture of the table because it was so cute and really fun to have everyone over for a little breakfast party.

The day was spent relaxing, doing homework and unfortunately watching a disappointing loss to UNC. After that though, I met up with my teammates at the clubhouse of one of the housing developments and we had team bonding! Our dry month (which is basically a month without alcohol regardless of age) started last week so we all got together to have some good fun! Every stunt group had to bring a dish so it was basically a potluck and then we played Just Dance. I was terrible at Just Dance, but give me some more practice and I promise you I will be good.

Today, we had practice from 1-4 and it was a tough one. I was drained emotionally and physically. As I’m sitting here in my bed now I can feel the aches trying to work themselves out. Not much longer now though until we’re in Daytona leaving it all on the mat! I need a quick shower before the usual crew gets here to watch The Walking Dead though so I need to scoot, but here are some of my favorite moments from the team pot luck!

NCSU vc Wake Forest

Well that Pack finally showed up to play! After quite the embarrassing display of football last weekend against Virginia, it was nice to cheer a game where we were actually scoring points! What a long weekend it has been. Friday, Mere, Kyleigh and I all cheered a Women’s basketball game against Wofford, which the ladies won, and then headed home for some much need down time. Kyleigh and Meredith had to be at the Men’s game that night and I napped all day and then cleaned and got ready for my Momma and brother (who I hadn’t seen since summer and I think he is a foot taller) and Ms. Kendy and Scotty. Once we were all together we headed out to Carolina Ale House, because lets be honest, no family visit is complete without it!

Saturday was a busy one. After the 3rd quarter wrapped up 3 stunts groups from small had to leave to football game to head over to Reynolds coliseum to cheer the women’s basketball game against Auburn. Kind of funny since Chuchi goes to Auburn! The Pack ended up with the win for both sporting events and I am pretty sure I felt a range of every emotion that day! After it was a quick dinner and then straight to bed for this girl.

This morning I got to hang out with Buster and the boys and then enjoy lunch at El Cerro with everyone. We said quick goodbyes and I came home and crawled in bed with Mere so we could get on Pinterest, watch Awkward and Jersey Shore and even take a little power nap. Who needs a boyfriend when you can a best friend who will put up with you crawling in her bed to relax!? Her too sweet boyfriend sent her an edible arrangement of chocolate covered strawberries and apples, which she shared with me because she is the best. He won serious brownie points, one might think it would be difficult to be single and have a best friend with the perfect relationship (although she gets mad when I say that) but it really works out to my advantage sometimes! Especially because its long distance (major props to them) so I always have someone to cuddle with if I’m feeling lonely. I honestly don’t know how the girl puts up with me.

After our power nap we got ready to try out a new church. I’ve been there before, but was overwhelmed with the amount of people there, but we tried out a new time that is directed toward college students. The message was great and very simple, put your trust in God. Even if he doesn’t give you all the answers, if you trust Him completely you will benefit in the end. As a girl who is type A and always has to have a plan and the answers this is something I struggle with every day as a Christian. Putting all my faith in God and knowing that he is going to do with me what he sees fit can seem daunting because I like to be in control over myself and know my next move, but I need to remember that isn’t always the case and if I have faith eventually it will all play out.

Now I am preparing for the week, cleaning up and waiting for dinner to be finished. Tonight is all about doing a little work and watching Revenge and The Walking Dead! I feel like every Sunday I can’t help but sing that Craig Morgan song, What I Love About Sunday. I’m done with exams until finals, so this should be a better week then the last. Hope everyone has enjoyed their day as much as I have!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

-Proverbs 3:5-6

NCSU vs. Citadel

This weekend we had another home game! It was also our military appreciation game, which is always one of my favorite games considering I have a lot of family who are military or ex-military.

I hate that we miss the half-time show though when they pull out the field length flag! Although I bet it would probably make me cry because I am such a sap about things like that. We ended up killing the Citadel with a score of 52-14! Do you know how much tumbling is required for a game that has a score of 52!? Let’s just say it is a lot and my body is still feeling it today!

I was exhausted after the game and ended up just relaxing on the couch for the night. We had lots of visitors last night! Bobby lives in the apartment complex so he came over to hang out, then Meredith’s boyfriend Mike is in town visiting and Kyleigh’s sister Kolby stayed the night with us with her guide dog Sunny! THEN at midnight (because when you have a bad week and call your best friend begging her to come stay with you she leaves straight from work to drive 2 and a half hours to your apartment) Emmy got to the apartment!

Sunny searching for any leftover cupcake crumbs from the cupcake she tried to eat off the end table

We ended up crawling in bed around 12:45 and had pillow talk until 2 in the morning, way passed our grandma bedtimes! Then it was up early to curl hair AGAIN (my hair is really hating me) to head to team pictures that got cancelled last week.

It was a beautiful day, but I really just wanted to be in my apartment doing what Emmy, Mere and I do best. Sitting on the couch watching tv…

The 5 third years who remain on Small Coed, boy how our numbers have dwindled. When did we get so old?

Once pictures were over, we gathered up Emmy and Mike and headed to El Cerro, anyone surprised? Good, you shouldn’t be. Back at home, it was time for a nap! I know I know, I have a genetics test tomorrow, but my nap was only for an hour and I really needed it.

Somehow, Emmy and I realized that the Emmy’s (haha weird) were on tonight and that meant we needed Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to eat while we were watching like we used to do all last year. We also decided we needed to live together at some point so we could be workout buddies and cook healthy food together. Ironic considering all we did today was eat unhealthy food for us…

So now I am spread out all over the kitchen table with my Genetics work, studying hard, while watching the Emmy’s with Mere and Emmy. The world feels right πŸ™‚

Hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready to have a productive week! I know I am!

NCSU vs. South Alabama

This weekend was a great way to really kick off the football season with our home opener against South Alabama! The weather was great for football on Saturday and it was a night game, that we won! Even if the team wasn’t that great, a win is a win πŸ˜‰

I was really busy during the week so I didn’t get around to posting as much as I would have liked to, but things should be better this week! Saturday morning when we woke up, Momma Hams, Daddy Hams and grandmother were hard at work transforming our humble abode into a breakfast buffet for about 30-40 of our closest friends (read: teammates) We somehow managed to fit them all in and fed them waffles with fruit, omelets, bacon, bagels with cream cheese, and yogurt and granola. The Hamlets are absolutely amazing and I couldn’t have imagined it running any smoother! Thanks again Mom and Dad πŸ˜‰

Then it was time for the dread hair curling task, couldn’t get this lion’s mane done without the help of my roommates! I know they will be glad next year when we graduate and they never have to curl my hair again. (oh what a weird and scary thought, is next year really my senior year?!?!)

Dad, Katherine and Buster shortly arrived and we headed to campus so I could get my ankle taped and meet for the game. Then it was time for a few pictures, loading the bus and we were on our way! The game was probably one of the fastest I have ever cheered. Warm up and pregame…probably the longest haha But we finished up with a win and it was time to take my tired body to get some food! Of course there is no where better for a post-game meal then Carolina Ale House πŸ™‚ I ordered a veggie flat bread that did not come out as I expected, but was still pretty good.

Once I got back it was time for a shower and to cuddle with my little man. I loved having Buster in the apartment. The rents should watch out, having a pet made everything more enjoyable this morning πŸ˜‰ Once Daddy and Katherine got to the apartment we headed to Target to pick up a few things and then, upon finding out pictures were cancelled due to rain (hallelujah) we headed over to the farmers market to check things out.

he liked cuddling in Meredith’s bed

Holy awesome farmers market batman!! Nothing says fall like giant pumpkins, funny gourds and the smell of apple cider πŸ™‚ We picked up some veggies and delicious apples and then it was time to head home. I also got all the ingredients for white bean and kale soup (eeepppp so excited)

how awesome do these look!

pretty mums

more mums πŸ™‚

Daddy and Katherine got all the rest of my shelves hung up (thank you very much) and it adds even more to my room! Once it is totally pulled together I will take pictures to put up here. I also plan on doing Β a post about all the Β great dinners being made in the apartment lately.

Once everyone left, it was time to relax! I didn’t move off the couch except to attempt to clean my room and make some dinner all day and I loved every minute of it. I’m sure my body is thanking me too. Tomorrow everything starts fresh though with classes, appearances, lift and practice.

I’m off to bed, I’m pretty sure we have testing in the morning for lift (yikes)

To get you in a good mindset for monday, jot down some things you are thankful for. πŸ™‚

  • What did you do this weekend?
  • What is your favorite part of fall?

NCSU vs UCONN

What a weekend!

Today I have done pretty much nothing productive except catch up on sleep, grocery shop and make a fabulous dinner. I needed a day like today after Friday and Saturday. On Friday at 2:15, Meredith and I packed up and headed to Murphy Center to meet the rest of the football team and cheer team to board the plane to Connecticut.

It is always a neat experience flying with the team because we get to go right out and onto the plane after going through a personalized security and they spoil up with food on the plane! We also have a personal tv that we can watch new movie releases and tv shows and even listen to music. I was so tired from studying for my genetics test that I started a movie and was asleep before it even started. Which meant we were in Connecticut loading onto the new buses before I even knew it!

Once we were there we quickly checked into the hotel and got freshened up for dinner. We went to a little restaurant called Hot Tomatoes that we weren’t impressed with at all. The service to the food was just all around poor. Meredith and I split a caesar salad and the Hot Tomatoes Chicken Giovanni and it was so bland I couldn’t even eat it. I tried adding pepper and salt and it helped but I wasn’t about to waste calories on bland food. It was way over-priced too!

After that it was back to the room to get a good nights sleep so we would be fresh for the game on Saturday!

Saturday started off super early at 6 am so I could do my hair and make up and be ready for Meredith to curl it when she woke up at 6:45am. Once I was all ready I ran down to Starbucks for all my roommates because I was up before everyone else. I indulged a little and had oatmeal and an iced skinny vanilla latte. SO YUMMY! I had to be careful with the oatmeal though because the stuff to add into it made it taste good but would have also added A LOT of calories.

Once everyone was ready, we met the rest of our team and our coach in the lobby to snap a few pictures and then load the buses with our stuff. Then it was back to the hotel for a quick pre-game service with the leader of NC State’s FCA. He is awesome and I really need to find out when FCA meets because I would love to start going. His message was all about putting all of your trust in the Lord and being trustworthy yourself.

Then it was on the bus and on our way to the stadium! Always weird riding on the bus to the stadium with a police escort! Once there is was time to warm up and wait for the game to start. It was a good game, 10-7, so we won and that always makes everything better. I think we had every type of weather but snow during the game, which made things interesting but still a good time.

Right after the game, we changed clothes and waited on the bus for the football players to eat their chinese and shower (oh to be that lucky haha) I was so tired, I fell asleep on the bus. On the plane back I started watching Brave until I fell asleep again and was woken up by terrible turbulence! At first things were just shaky and then we hit an air pocket and really felt like we fell out of the air. A few people weren’t wearing their seat belts and they flew up and hit the top of the air plane! I was so glad I was wearing mine!

We ended up have to fly over top of Raleigh for about 45 minutes while we waited for the weather to clear and when it didn’t we flew to Greensboro to refuel and wait out the Raleigh storms. Just picture the entire football team, the cheerleaders, random alumni, coaching staff, trainers, airplane staff, and equipment managers all trapped on a plane with no air and everyone trying to use the 2 tiny bathrooms in the back…not pleasant.

Soon enough though we were back in the air and headed home. Meredith and I were starving and wanted food ridden with calories so we headed to one of our favorites, Carolina Ale House. It was such a Β good choice, but was then definitely time for home and bed!

Busy week ahead of me, two tests, practice and the first home game of the season! So excited to take down South Alabama and get back in Carter Finley! We definitely have the prettiest stadium πŸ™‚

Puppies and Obama

You know those days where you leave the house in the morning and don’t come back all day until 9:30 at night and you are just exhausted? That was me today.

I made it through all my homework throughout various points of the day, went all the way to WB to pick up my gear for tomorrow, ate lunch with one of my teammates, finished class, headed straight to practice (which was not good compared to yesterday) and came back to heat up a quick bowl of buttered noodles and take a shower so I can devote the rest of my night to this…

Genetics.

I have my first exam tomorrow and I am nervous! But once it is done I will have one more class and then I get to come back and pack and think only about traveling to UCONN to cheer my first game of the season! Hopefully the boys can pull out a win!

some of the gear I picked up today

While I am stuffing my brain full of incomplete dominance, homozygous genes, pedigrees and punnet squares, please enjoy some adorable pictures of one of my teammates new golden retriever puppy, Sonny. Needless to say I have a thousand more on my phone and am ridiculously jealous that she has a puppy.

all tuckered out

Also when I got out of practice tonight I had a cool email from my daddy telling an exciting story! As I am sure most of you are aware the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was hosted in Charlotte this year, which is awesome! I wish I had been home to get to experience a little bit of it because how many times can you say that the convention was held in your beloved city! Anyway, my daddy said he and Katherine were on a bike ride and were crossing an overpass of 277 when they noticed that the interstate was completely empty. Katherine then tells my dad that she thinks its because Obama is going to pass by and my dad is like no he isn’t lets just go home. And sure enough 2 minutes later the motorcade passed by! They didn’t get a good shot of the limo, but they did send us this picture…

I don’t know if you can really tell, but on the left side is where the interstate is empty except for the police! How awesome is that!

Okay enough of this, time to crack down and study hard! There are about to be lots of practice problems in my future!

Have a good night y’all and get excited because tomorrow is Friday!

Pinterest Funnies

All in all today has been a pretty good day! Lift was good, classes went smoothly, I got another 100 on my Food Science Quizzam (cross between a quiz and an exam) and I had an extremely productive practice.Actually my whole team really had a productive practice. We were knocking out our skills right and left! I even did my two to full tonight!! πŸ˜‰

Unfortunately now is the not so fun part, the part where I have to finish all my homework because I have a statistics quiz, genetics homework, organic homework and a genetics exam to study for all before Friday. I also have one more practice, packing for UCONN because I made travel team, and picking up the gear I need for the game. It is going to be a crazy end to this week!

I have my genetics homework staring me in the face right now because it is due tomorrow morning at 11:20 and unfortunately I have no idea how to do it! Any geneticists out there care to lend a hand? No? Okay, I’ll just entertain you with some funny things I found on Pinterest. (quality posting no? ;))

so true

Hope everyone got as good a giggle out of this as I did, now I think I am ready to tackle my genetics homework, statistics quiz and organic homework…

On a side note, I got a really encouraging message today from a friend from high school that said that my post about church really put some things into perspective for her. It completely made my heart soar to hear that because it can sometimes be difficult to write a blog, a lot of people don’t understand why I do it or don’t like the material that I publish, but this blog is for me. A personal diary of sorts, and I enjoy it. And if I can touch even one person with what I have to say at the end of the day, well I consider that a job well done.

Creepy Crawlies

Today started out like any other Wednesday, I had lift bright and squirrelly in the morning, but I had a little extra motivation helping me get through my run…

Thanks Jimmy V!

In case anyone has never seen the speech I highly recommend you watch it. Jim Valvano was incredibly inspiring and I’m not going to lie I bawled like a baby watching his speech at the ESPYs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuoVM9nm42E

That is the link if you want to check it out, aka go check it out now and then come back.

So are you crying now? Well now you’re about to cry even more if you’re anything like me and not a fan of creepy crawly things…

Today I was walking back from Meredith’s room when something caught my eye on the wall, and what to my wondering eyes should appear?

A nasty cockroach.

He was a big sucker too. So naturally we call the boys we know that live in our apartment complex…they aren’t home. So I man up, grab a chair and a shoe, step up on the chair and take a swing.

I miss.

It bounces off the wall, lands on my chest, falls to the ground as I jump off the chair screaming bloody murder.

Then I come running back because I don’t want it to run somewhere where I won’t find it and hit is again getting its back end and leaving guts on our wall. BUT IT KEEPS RUNNING!

So I smack it a few more times to where it can’t possibly run anymore and I think it is dead. Problem now is, I’m sure as heck not removing it from the house. So Kyleigh starts knocking on boys doors so we can try and get this nasty creature out. There apparently were no boys at my apartment complex at this time! so we open the sliding back door to push it out and the arms and antennas were still moving!!!

EEWWWWW.

That was a pretty traumatic experience for us and I hope I don’t have to deal with anymore in the near future.

After that debacle, I got ready for practice and headed to the final day of fall tryouts. I want to congratulate all those who made NC State Cheerleading and hope y’all enjoy it as much as I do!

Now that I am back though it is time to crack down on my to do list I have been working on alllllll day! I’ve finally gotten my room and life back together somewhat and it has made my motivation level do a complete 180!

Queen of To Do lists

Halfway through the week people! That’s what I’m talking about! πŸ™‚

This crazy game called LIFE

Most people aren’t a fan of Monday’s because it is the first day of the week and they just don’t like Monday. For me though, and I am pretty sure I have mentioned this on the blog before, I am not a Tuesday person. It is always such a blah day in my mind! Today was no exception to that feeling.

Once I was up, I had a bowl of cereal while I got ready and then scurried off to campus to get ready for my organic lab. The allotted class time for lab is from 12-2:45, guess what time I finished my lab?

12:30.

Guess when my next class is?

4:30.

Needless to say I had time to kill so I headed to the library where I worked on a couple assignments and then looked into becoming a Registered Dietician because the more I think about where I want to be in the future, the more I know that I want to be a Registered Dietician. Unfortunately, NC State is not ACEND accredited meaning when I graduate I won’t have the necessary qualifications to apply for the extremely competitive Dietetics Internships which I need in order to sit for my exam to even become a Registered Dietician.

WHEW.

Fortunately, there is an ex-cheerleader from state who graduated from state with a degree in nutrition and is working to become an RD and has presented me with some options and helped to explain exactly what I am up against. Thank you Sally! I’ll definitely be keeping in touch with her to make sure I am doing what I need to do to be competitive for those internships!

After the library, I went to organic and then headed straight to Reynolds for Fall Try-outs. They seemed to go pretty well, we had more people come out then I was expecting.

Tomorrow I am determined to get my life together. Does anyone else feel like when there room is a mess and they are unorganized they just don’t have the motivation to do anything else? Because that is me to a T! Right now I have no sheets on my bed (my mom is probably cringing right now) a laundry basket full of clean clothes that have yet to be folded that have been in there since Friday (again sorry mom) and my room is just a disaster in general. So tomorrow is the day that it all changes. I don’t really have an excuse since tomorrow is the day I start really early (6:45 am lift anyone???) but I also finish really early. And then I only have one more practice this week, and it isn’t really a practice since it will be day two of Fall Try-Outs! Then I can get exited for the 3 day weekend coming up, I’m trying to make it down to Georgia to visit that wonderful boy I talked about earlier, that came to visit me this past weekend. I’m sure at some point I’ll fill you all in on what is going on, but right now just know that I am a happy girl.

Do you despise Monday or do you have a different day you dislike?
